How to Nail Après-Ski Chic | Ski Jacket as Fashion Statement
I don’t ski, but that didn’t stop me from thrifting a bright orange ski jacket. Why, you might ask? Well, for fashion of course.
I present to you, skicore.
Okay, so I just made up this new ‘core, but it has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?
Whether you call it skicore, street ski, or slope style, this wintery spin on athleisure is a great way to get more wear out of your ski apparel.
Much like the cycling glasses I bought to style as a fashion statement (and now also wear running), the ski jacket is actually the perfect piece to be removed from its typical environment and taken to the streets.
The Miu Miu runway was awash with après-ski attire, as were current and past season’s collections from Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney, and Balenciaga. And how can we forget the ’80s-era après-ski looks presented in the blockbuster film, House of Gucci?
If this didn’t serve as enough encouragement for you to give the après-ski style trend a try, then hopefully this post will.
Ski chic is here and it’s never been easier to pull off. Below are three ideas for your ski styling inspiration.
Mostly monochrome | Ski jacket + pants in the same color
For a chic street ski fit, pair your ski jacket with a pair of pants in a similar or identical color. A mostly monochrome outfit is probably the easiest way to pull off a ski coat because it almost gets lost when worn with pants of the same shade.
This trick works regardless of your ski jacket’s color, so if you have a blue ski jacket, try styling it with a pair of jeans in a matching wash.
Help to guarantee people will know you’re taking your ski coat to the streets by juxtaposing the casual ski vibes with a super elegant and timeless pocketbook. (I present a number of great options, at various budgets, in my vegan purse guide.)
While I paired this look with my Lovjoi tall chunky boots, swap them for heeled boots or dainty pumps for an even more feminine take on ski chic.

Grandpa style | Ski jacket + dad sweater + grandpa slacks
Take a tip from grandpa and style your ski jacket with pleated pinstripe pants and a ski sweater.
Keep the accessories chic by opting for a delicately-small purse, movie-star sunnies, chunky gold jewelry, and an elegant timepiece. The overall feel is modern with a touch of vintage après-ski.
For an office-appropriate take on this look, exchange the chunky lug-sole boots for heels or loafers.

Menswear inspired | Ski jacket + baggy trousers + oversized button-up
Outsized masculine pieces (maybe ones straight from your husband’s/boyfriend’s closet) team surprisingly well with a ski jacket. They make for an overall baggy and casual, yet ultra-chic, oversized silhouette.
While the first look was about having the ski jacket blend into your outfit, this borrowed-from-the-boys look is all about making it the centerpiece. Do this by selecting neutral-colored base layers to let the ski jacket be the focus of your fit.
Menswear pieces are, by definition, boxy and looser fitting and if you’re petite like me, you might naturally shy away from these styles.
Too-long-for-you trousers are trending, so my fellow petites can rejoice and break out all those slacks you haven’t gotten around to hemming yet. Use them to make a sort of supersized slouchy suit by teaming them with a men’s button-up shirt.
And no need to buy a new shirt with the trending super-long sleeves, simply snag one from your guy’s closet (or your own if you’re as menswear obsessed as I am) for the same effect.

Final Thoughts
While it’s designed for sport, ski fashion works equally well when worn casually (off the slopes) and if you’re a ski fan, this is one trend you can style straight from your closet.
These are three easy ways to take your sporting gear to street-style fabulousness. You could also wear your ski coat with slim-leg dress slack and heels like Balenciaga, or à la Louis Vuitton with a dressy skirt and boots (as I demonstrated in my Chunky White Vegan Boots post).
