How to Nail Spring Layering to Get the Most Out of Your Clothes
Sure there are items in your closet that are only appropriate for a single season but why not use these simple layering tricks to make your current wardrobe even more sustainable. The creative styling hacks outlined below will let you bring your clothes from season to season and help you get more wear out of each item.
Trick 1: Hide Skinny Jeans Under Your Warm-Weather Maxi Skirt or Dress
Dying to break out your summer skirts but the weather isn’t quite cooperating? Style your flowy skirt over skinny jeans. You wouldn’t know it by looking at the images for this look but I’m wearing black skinny jeans under this purple polka-dot skirt.
The trick to pulling off this tip is that you want the jeans to be hardly noticeable (if at all). Their purpose is to provide warmth and a windbreak so you can book this skirt for more calendar days.
If it’s too cool to wear your big collared blouse by itself, there’s nothing stopping you from wearing it under a cozy sweatshirt and popping out the collar. That way you can sneak the trend in without getting frostbite and it’s such a fast way to glam up a plush pullover.
With all these layers, if you ever feel that your physique is being overpowered, add a belt to your natural waist for instant definition.
A chunky boot helps to keep your feet cozy as well as conceal your stealthily worn jeans. I love these boots so much I dedicated an entire post to them so check out how else I styled these versatile beauties in my Hottest Chunky White Vegan Boots of the Season post complete with discount code.

Trick 2: Wear A Cropped Sweatshirt Over a Long Button-up Shirt or Shirt Dress
While my style is eclectic, it also tends to be more on the modest side. This look is for all others who would rather not bare their midriff in a cropped top but still wish to participate in the trend.
How can you combat this styling conundrum? Wear a cropped sweatshirt or top over a long button-down shirt or shirt dress. Not only does it add some privacy (and a boost of confidence) but it also creates an interesting mix of varying lengths, which gives the illusion that you’re taller (a welcome advantage for all my fellow petite frames).
Choose straight-leg jeans in black to help balance the proportions and add your favorite chunky white sneaker to keep the look fresh. If you’re still searching for the ultimate pair of white vegan shoes, check out my 3 White Vegan Sneakers post for some excellent options.

Trick 3: Wear Two Button-Down Shirts with Slim-Fit Jeans
Why wear just one button-up shirt when you can wear two?
Style a more fitted long-sleeve shirt underneath and layer a looser fitting short-sleeve button-down shirt over top.
This gives you warmth (similar to a sweater vest) while still allowing you to bend your arms at will.
Feel free to also play around with patterns and colors as I’ve done by styling a brown houndstooth shirt with a pink striped one.
Still too cold for bare Birkenstocks? Throw on a pair of chunky cotton socks and you’re good to go.
