Whether you use a little or a lot of this cheery color it’s sure to lift your spirits and these days we’ll take all of the extra joy we can muster.

While I’m loving the idea of fully monochrome looks lately, I know it’s not the style for everyone. That’s why I’m giving you three outfit ideas that run the scale of a little yellow to a full-on sunshine parade.

Whatever your level of appreciation for yellow, you’re sure to find a look to inspire some outfit creations.

Yellow Blazer + Sweater Vest + Straight-leg Jeans + Dad Sneakers

Harmfreefashion models vegan & thrifted fashion (pale yellow blazer, heather grey sweater vest, D-frame sunglasses, straight-leg jeans, Sans Beast belt bag & Rombaut white vegan Boccaccio sneakers).

I’ll ease you into yellow with this classic blazer and jeans look that is so cool and classy it could work for almost any occasion. For this flattering color block look, I’ve styled this fitted sunshine yellow blazer over a heather grey sweater vest.

Grey is such a lovely color to pair with any shade of yellow. Yellow emits cheer while grey radiates coziness and who doesn’t want to feel cozy and cheerful? And let’s not forget Illuminating and Ultimate Grey are the Pantone colors of the year so this is a color combo that will get you noticed for all the right reasons.

The addition of these chunky white vegan dad sneakers (from the vegan brand Rombaut) adds a touch of a current trend to this otherwise rudimentary outfit. D-frame sunglasses (another trending accessory) and a belt bag worn as a wristlet up the ante.

Vintage Yellow Sweatshirt + Floral Skirt + Black Strappy Sandals

Harmfreefashion models vegan & thrifted fashion (pastel yellow sweatshirt, Ralph Lauren wallpaper floral pencil skirt, Baggu circle bag, strappy sandals & Colibris sunglasses).

This next look uses a bit more yellow and is for those who like to wear even more color in their outfits. It might seem at first glance you would struggle to find a top to match with this pencil skirt. However, because the skirt has so many colors in it, you’re really a glutton for choice, making it much easier to style than one that were, say, cobalt blue.

For a colorful skirt like this, you can pick a top in any of the color shades of this floral print. You could also choose a neutral color such as grey, white, or cream. And if you’re going for color mixologist points (okay not really a thing) you could select a complementary color such as orange or purple.

Also, don’t be afraid to pair a dressy item (like this floral pencil skirt) with sporty or casual pieces (such as this cozy and carefree pale yellow pullover). With all the waist-up dressing we’ve been doing lately, this outfit gives your upper half a chance to be comfortable for a change.

Yellow Blazer, V-neck Sweater & Bermuda Shorts + Gingham Mules

Harmfreefashion models vegan & thrifted fashion (monochrome yellow short suit, Sans Beast hip bag, Matt & Nat gingham vegan mules).

Monochrome looks have been trending for a number of seasons now and this monochrome yellow short suit is for all my fellow yellow lovers. While these Bermuda shorts, jumper, and blazer are all thrifted pieces from various designers, they work together because they are all roughly the same shade of yellow.

In a true monochrome outfit, these would all be the exact same shade (as Max Mara has become notorious for designing) but when you’re working with preloved items it’s okay to bend the trend or do the opposite of the trend if that’s your thing 🙃. I find it’s often better to take inspiration from a trend and add your personal twist to it (whether that means adjusting it slightly or running in the other direction is entirely your choice).

Final Thoughts

No matter where you fall on the yellow love-o-meter, incorporating any amount of the shade into your outfit is sure to bring a bit of sunshine to your mood. I showed you how to pair sunshine yellow with grey, wear virtually identical shades of yellow, and style pale yellow with a wallpaper floral skirt.

In addition to grey, other colors that pair beautifully with yellow are cobalt blue with lemon yellow (see my Dopamine Dressing post to see these colors styled together), chocolate brown with sunshine yellow, and pastel shades with pastel yellow (see my Vegan Combat Boots post to see how I wore lilac and sky blue with pale yellow).

Regardless of the color combination you select, the boost of color is sure to add a skip to your step. 🤸🏼‍♀️
