Style Birks Like a Celeb | The Controversial Dad Sandals
Birkenstocks might just be the hottest sandal trend for spring with celebrities and models (such as Alexa Chung, Gigi Hadid, and Katie Holmes) having all been spotted wearing the Arizona model I style below.
Whether you’re headed to the office, on a weekend outing, or are seeking a casual and comfortable celebrity-inspired look, I have you covered with these three ultra-fun and feminine ways to style lilac-colored vegan sandals (socks welcome 🧦).
Off-Duty Model Vibes
Up first is quite possibly the most casual look I’ve styled for the blog.
While I’m not one to style leggings as though they are pants (at least not where anyone might see me), I just couldn’t help but be inspired by the off-duty models and celebrities reviving the colored leggings trend of the aughts.
Naturally, I styled my version of the look with Birkenstocks in the super trending lilac shade, to give my own spark to the outfit.
Lilac not your jam? Fear not, as these vegan Arizonas come in a rainbow of colorways sure to please, regardless of your favorite color.
I also style a red pair and a white version in my Transitional Dressing Trick post.
When working with such casual pieces as a sweatshirt and leggings, it allows you more liberties with the accessories.
Of course, you can coordinate your accessories with the sporty vibe of the look or (as I prefer to do) add some class and elegance (in addition to make the ensemble more appropriate for an outing; and yes, these days a trip to the grocery store counts as an outing) with a fancy designer purse, gold chain necklace, and chic sunglasses.
The trick is to look expensive (à la celebrity style), even though you’re basically in a sweatsuit and the easiest way to do that is with the addition of glam accessories.
This look has major Los Angeles vibes (thanks in part to all those celeb paparazzi shots snapped on the streets of LA 📸).
In order to make this outfit more appropriate for a European or New York City 🗽 climate, simply toss on a brightly colored ski jacket for warmth and an added color punch.

Suit With Birkenstocks à la Tracee Ellis Ross
I’ve fallen hard for the idea of teaming playful and casual dad sandals (and sandals don’t get much more casual than Arizona Birkenstocks in lilac EVA) with a business suit.
This combination just oozes chicness and when you add a pair of comfy slip-on sandals to a loose-fitting suit it’s the ultimate in comfortable dressing.
Not to mention how well lavender combines with navy.
I bet you couldn’t tell but this isn’t a real suit as I paired a thrifted vintage double-breasted blazer with these wide-legged navy slacks that I purchased new.
Creating a “suit” from all preloved items or combined with new pieces is easy to pull off when you have two articles that are virtually the same color and I guarantee no one will ever notice you’re not wearing an actual suit.
Being free to swap your items around also allows for additional combinations as you could wear this blazer with a navy pencil skirt or Bermuda shorts to make a skirt or short suit.
While baggy and oversized suits have been in style for a while now, another styling trend that’s currently raging for suits (despite it being arguably less wearable) is bra tops.
Here I’ve worn this oversized blazer over a lime green sports bra.
Pro tip: no need to go out to buy a new bra that’s labeled as a “bra top” when you might have one already in your closet that will work.
While this style probably isn’t appropriate for the office, it’s perfect for a dinner date or drinks with friends and when your blazer is buttoned, it’s hardly noticeable.

Casual & Chic Weekend Fit
This last look merges a number of current trends into a single look. Colored denim: check. Black straight-leg jeans: check. Lilac-colored accessories: double check. Leopard print: okay so this is always in trend in my book. 🐆 Gold chain jewelry: check.
This mashup of trends is the perfect look to raise the level of your style game and carry you through any weekend outing. It’s casual yet fashionably dressy at the same time allowing you to enter any room with confidence and swagger. And isn’t that the goal for every outfit?
For a look with so many current trends, you might think my outfit is from the high street.
However, much like the majority of my outfits, this is a predominately thrifted look (excluding the purse, belt, and sandals) featuring a kid’s burnt sienna denim jacket, vintage animal print blouse, black straight-cut Levi’s, and costume jewelry, thus proving you can find even the latest trending fashions second hand.

Final Thoughts
Whether Arizona Birkenstocks remain a hot trend is yet to be seen but with sandals this easy and fun to style (as well as being as comfortable as they are) I think they’re a safe bet. The only real problem is, deciding which color to get.
